WASHED OUT AT HEADINGLEY

The first ODI between Australia and England at Headingley was abandoned due to heavy rains without a ball being bowled.

After several inspections, umpires called off the match at 6 pm IST, more than three hours after the match was supposed to start. This is the second consecutive ODI to be abandoned at this venue after England’s clash with West Indies being called off.

England had rested five players from their Ashes winning squad for the ODI series. After losing the Ashes 3-0, Australia leveled the two-match T20I series 1-1.
The next of the five-match series will be played at Old Trafford, Manchester on Sunday.

YOUNIS SWINGS GAME PAK'S WAY

Pakistan's most accomplished batsman Younus Khan completed an unbeaten double century on Friday to turn the course of the first test against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club.

At the close Zimbabwe, set 342 for victory when Pakistan declared their second innings closed at 419 for nine, were 13 for one after Tino Mawoyo was dismissed lbw for two by off-spinner Saeed Ajmal.

Younus brought up his 200 with a six during an unbeaten 88-run partnership for the final wicket with Rahat Ali, who struck a swashbuckling 35 from 40 deliveries.

He spent just over 10 hours at the crease, swinging the balance of the test and effectively ending any hopes that Zimbambwe would chase an attainable target on the final day.

Instead, the home side face a battle for survival on a deteriorating pitch.

Pakistan, who resumed on 168 for four, lost the wicket of Asad Shafiq (15) in the first over.

However, Younus and Adnan Akmal saw off some lively bowling to add 118 runs for the sixth wicket which ended with a farcical runout when Adnan had reached 64.

Three wickets to off-spinner Propser Utseya reduced Pakistan to 331 for nine, raising the prospect of an exciting run chase for Zimbabwe, before Younus and Rahat Ali put the test effectively beyond the home team's reach.

LIFE BAN FOR LALIT MODI?

The BCCI is likely to impose a life ban on former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi in its Special General Meeting (SGM) which will be convened on September 25 at Chennai.
This comes after a Working Committee meeting at Kolkata on Sunday looked into the report by the disciplinary committee on the alleged financial regularities and improper auctioning. The disciplinary committee, consisting of Jyotiraditya Scindia and Arun Jaitley, suggested imposing a life ban.

"The committee's report has suggested imposing a life ban on Lalit Modi. To decide on his fate, a special general body meeting has been summoned in Chennai on September 25 to decide on the issue. As of now, the life ban looks imminent," cricketnext.com quoted a BCCI official as saying.

The imposition of life ban on Modi will require at least 21 members to be in favour, or two-thirds majority.

Modi was the IPL commissioner-cum-chairman from its first edition in 2008 to 2010. A three-member committee comprising Jaitley, Scindia, and president N Srinivasan was formed to look into the issue. However, Srinivasan recused himself from the position as did his replacement Chirayu Amin later to reduce it to a two-member committee.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will decide on September 11 if President N Srinivasan can chair the SGM. The BCCI had moved the Supreme Court appealing against the Bombay HC order which had declared the spot-fixing probe to be unconstitutional.

"The SGM on September 25 will also serve a dual purpose--it will be a dress rehearsal for the AGM on September 29. The equations will become clear that day," the official added.

MOHALI TO HOST HYDERABAD'S CLT20 GAMES

The Punjab Cricket Association stadium in Mohali will host the Champions League T20 qualifying games from September 17 instead of Hyderabad.
The rest of the venues Jaipur, Ranchi, Ahmedabad and Delhi are unchanged.
Mohali will host a double-header in the main event on September 24. These games were scheduled to be held at Hyderabad.
The JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi, will now host the double-header on September 28 while the Sardar Patel Gujarat Stadium in Ahmedabad, will host the double-header scheduled for September 30.
The Hyderabad Cricket Association had earlier expressed its inability to host the six qualifying games from September 17 to September 20. This after the Hyderabad police communicated to them that it will not be able to provide adequate security for the matches due to Ganesh immersion activities.
IPL franchise Hyderabad Sunrisers, Faislabad Wolves from Pakistan, Kandurata Maroons from Sri Lanka and Oltago Volts of New Zealand are the teams participating in the qualifiers. Each team will play the other once and the top two teams will then progress to the main event beginning September 21.

TENDULKAR TO PLAY 200TH TEST AT HOME

Sachin Tendulkar could play his 200th Test in India after the BCCI announced a series with the West Indies in the early parts of November.
It was expected earlier that Tendulkar, who is on 198 Tests, will become the first batsman to reach the 200-Test milestone in South Africa, where India is scheduled to travel in the middle of November for a tour consisting of three Tests and seven ODIs.
But in an unexpected turn of events, Tendulkar is set to achieve his next milestone in front of his countrymen and if he gets lucky, he could even do it in front of his homecrowd at the Wankhede Stadium.
Tendulkar, who has not played active cricket since getting injured during the Indian Premier League, recently underwent surgery on his arm and has started practicing again; clear signs that the master blaster is gearing up for the start of the season and should be fit to take on the West Indies.
"I had surgery on my hand for the injury I sustained during the IPL match in May. I have already started batting in the nets since the last ten days and am looking forward to the Champions League," PTI quoted Tendulkar as saying.
Tendulkar injured his hand during the match against Hyderabad Sunrisers and did not take part in the tournament after that. He flew down to London recently for the surgery and has since begun his preparations for the Champions League Twenty20 for the Mumbai Indians.
The BCCI announced the series against West Indies after it was proposed by N Srinivasan in the Working Committee meeting. The proposal was agreed upon unanimously. Cricinfo reported that the reason behind  the hastily-arranged tour was to ensure there was no dip in the board’s income considering that the seven-match ODI series with Australia was the only home series in the current financial year.
